Tips on color & light from The Artist’s Guide to Color by Wendon Blake
Probably the last Korra related piece I’ll do for a while. I had a lot of fun (especially with the water and “earth”) although coloring it was super challenging.

•Title is from the amazing song, “Spiritual State” by Nujabes feat Uyama Hiroto [link] I could listen to that song on loop forever.

•About the chinese characters from the Avatar wikia: “the characters can be translated to:
降世神通 - the divine medium who has descended upon the world (e.g. the Avatar).”

ANNO 1790: A MASTERPOST
THE BLURB: Anno 1790 is a 2011 Swedish drama series. After returning from the battlefields of a bloody war in Finland, Swedish army surgeon Johan Gustav Daadh finds himself reluctantly taking on the job as district police commissioner in Stockholm. Unenthusiastic about police work, he still brings tenacity and dispassionate reasoning to the job, with an eye to ensuring that criminals are caught and the innocent remain free. Beneath the calm exterior, Daadh is as conflicted as the times he lives in; he is a closeted revolutionary torn between his loyalty to the King and his progressive ideals. He also struggles with forbidden love for his employer’s wife Magdalena, who shares his vision for a just and free society.
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH IT: because, to quote Emma, “this show is a perfectly constructed treatise on agency and suffocation.” because in light of that it allows its characters, especially its female ones, to search for a way to pursue their own agency and desires without succumbing to anachronistic simplicity. because revolutionary politics and eighteenth century forensics. because it’s tight and poignant and cruel and beautiful.
also because the lead is played by this bloke, and because you get no hipster cred like the hipster cred you get for watching Swedish-language period crime dramas.
